Frequently Asked Questions
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy has been used for over 200 years and it is estimated that around 200 million people worldwide use it! Homeopathy is based around the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself. The body has a natural intelligence - for example, we instinctively know how to heal a wound or fight off a cold and the body will always attempt to remain healthy and balanced. Homeopathic remedies are given with the aim of triggering the body’s own healing mechanisms
Does homeopathy really work and how so?
To answer simply, yes! For scientific research into homeopathy see the Homeopathic Research Institute.
Homeopathy is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’ – this means that if a substance causes a symptom in a healthy person, giving the person a very small amount of the same substance may cure the illness. This concept is sometimes used in conventional medicine, for example, small doses of allergens, say pollen, are given in small doses to desensitise allergic patients. However, the difference with homeopathy is that the homeopathic remedies are so small and diluted that there are no toxic side effects – it is so safe it can even be used for small babies, pregnant women and sensitive elderly patients.
What happens during an initial consultation?
Your first appointment will be an in depth consultation that lasts for up to 1 hour either in person or via Skype/Zoom. We will discuss your current health issue and symptoms as well as things that you may not think are connected to your problem.
We will discuss all aspects of you including your sleep, diet and medical history.
This information will then be used for us to select an individualised prescription tailored specifically to you.
How will I receive my homeopathic remedy?
Your remedy will usually be sent out in the post a few days after the consultation. This ensures we have sufficient time to fully analyse in detail the information collected in the consultation and ensure we choose the best remedy (out of several thousands!) for you.
How do follow up consultations work?
Follow up consultations usually last up to 45 minutes and ideally are 4-6 weeks apart.
How many appointments will I need?
Healing, just like homeopathy, is very individual and dependent upon one's health history. Long term complaints may take longer to address than acute problems and several sessions may be needed.
As a general rule, we recommend that you allow for at least 3 follow up appointments.
If you are treating my child, do they have to be present?
It's certainly helpful if your child can sit and chat at the consultation even if just for 10 minutes because the way they describe their physical issues provides helpful information into finding the best remedy.
However, if your child is young and restless or non-verbal, then we can do the consultation without them or, if via Zoom/Skype/Facetime, they can sit off camera and you feedback their responses.
I don't have a diagnosis, can you still treat me?
Most certainly yes! Homeopathy prescribes on your individual symptoms not for the disease.
What if I have an acute/short term illness between appointments that requires homeopathic treatment?
Homeopathic advice, for recent illnesses and sudden complaints, is available 6 days a week via online one-to-one (low cost) video consultation at First Response Homeopathy. Click here to book.
